Service Categories Overview

Service Categories allow you to organize services into high-level groups for better structure, filtering, and user navigation across your booking platform.

They are especially important for multi-service businesses and multivendor marketplaces where customers need to quickly understand and browse different types of services.

Whether you are running a single business (e.g. a barbershop, clinic, or gym) or a multi-vendor marketplace (e.g. a national service directory or booking platform), service categories act as the main organizational layer for all services.

Accessing Service Categories

  1. Log into your Admin Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Services → Service Categories.
  3. You will see a list of all existing service categories.

The table displays:

  • No. – Row index
  • Service Category Name
  • Status – Active / Inactive toggle
  • Actions – Edit and Delete buttons

Creating a Service Category

Service categories help structure your services at a high level. Here’s how to create one:

  1. Click the ADD SERVICE CATEGORY button.
  2. The Add Service Category modal will open.

Fields Explained

  • Service Name – Enter a descriptive category name (e.g. Health & Wellness).
  • Service Status – Choose whether the category is Active or Inactive.

Examples

  • Single Vendor Example: A spa creates categories like “Massage”, “Facials”, and “Body Treatments”.
  • Multivendor Marketplace Example: Categories like “Automotive Services”, “Legal Services”, and “Fitness & Training”.

Click ADD to save your new category.


Editing a Service Category

To update an existing category:

  1. Go to the Service Categories list.
  2. Click the Edit (pencil) icon under the Actions column.

You can edit:

  • The category name
  • The category status (Active / Inactive)

When finished, click SAVE to apply changes.

Why set to Inactive?

Inactive categories will not appear in frontend selection or filtering, but their data remains available in the system for reporting and future use.


Deleting a Service Category

To delete a service category:

  1. Click the Delete (trash) icon in the Actions column.
  2. A confirmation dialog will appear.

Important Notes:

  • Deleting a category removes it from the system.
  • Associated services should be reassigned to another category before deletion.
  • This action cannot be undone.

Best Practices

  • Use clear and descriptive names for categories.
  • Avoid creating too many overlapping categories.
  • Group services logically from a customer’s perspective.
  • Periodically review categories to keep them organized.

Proper service categorization improves both operational management and your customers’ booking experience.
